Holy Mother Sarada Devi was born on 22 December 1853. She was married to Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa in May 1859. She served as a source of power and inspiration to Ramakrishna. After Ramakrishna's passing, she became a mother figure to the distressed, the poor and the rich alike. Swami Vivekananda founded Belur Math, but Mother Sarada resided at Mayer Bari in Baghbazar.
Mayer Bari became a wellspring of inspiration and solace for revolutionaries. Even Bagha Jatin came to seek Holy Mother's blessings and after touching her feet, he prayed for her blessings. Mother blessed him and motivated him in his sacrifice for the motherland. Nanibala Devi was another dedicated revolutionary who sought Mother's blessings.
Mother Sarada and the Ramakrishna Mission became a place of consolation and security for revolutionaries. Holy Mother also sanctified the following revolutionaries, who later became monks of the Mission: Debabrata Basu (Swami Projnananda), Sachin Sen (Swami Chinmayananda), Nagendra Nath Sarkar (Swami Sahajananda), Priya Nath Dasgupta (Swami Atmaprakashananda), Satish Das Gupta (Swami Satyananda), Dhiren Das Gupta (Swami Sambuddhananda), Radhika Mohan Adhikary (Swami Sundarananda), Bisweswar Bandyopadhyay (Swami Tapananda), Indra Dayal Bhattacharya (Swami Premeshananda), Dinesh Das Gupta (Swami Nikhilananda), Atul Chandra Gupta (Swami Avayananda).
Mother also blessed the following revolutionaries, although they did not become monks: Ramchandra Majumdar, Makhanlal Sen, Bijay Kumar Nag, Dinesh Mustafi, Suren Kar, and others. Thus, it can be unequivocally stated that Holy Mother Sarada Devi truly became the mother figure for all.
